Terralink International and Australian consortium partner win share of major Australian mapping contract

Mapping Australia, a consortium of Terralink International and Australian company, Aspect North Pty Ltd has won a place on the new Geoscience Australia mapping panel. This will allow the companies to bid for lucrative topographical mapping and digital data supply contracts for the next three years, with an option of another 2 years.

Geoscience Australia is Australia’s national geoscience research and geospatial information agency. The mapping work will involve producing maps, databases and photogrammetric compilations for the National Mapping Division of Geoscience Australia and the Defence Imagery and Geospatial Organisation.

Geoscience Australia is the main government mapping agency in Australia. The mapping work is outsourced as part of an initiative to map the whole country. The work will involve producing maps, databases and photogrammetric compilations for
Geoscience and Defence.

The mapping work is completed in a Geographic Information System (GIS) environment and is often complex and required to be completed to stringent quality standards. All staff working on the maps undergo rigorous training on the complex requirements of the digital mapping. Terralink International GIS technicians and cartographers have been involved in successful mapping projects for Geoscience Australia and its predecessor AUSLIG for the past five years.

Mike Donald General Manager of Terralink International says the consortium allows the strengths of both organisations to be combined, making them a strong contender when bidding for the work. “The formation of Mapping Australia demonstrates a firm commitment between Terralink International and Aspect North to be a major contender for business in the Australian geospatial industry “ says Mike.

Aspect North is a multi discipline mapping, engineering and consulting firm based on the north coast of Australia.
Aspect North Managing Director, Tony Hart says

“Winning a panel membership is another acknowledgement of Aspect North’s commitment to producing world class digital maps. The Australian Defence OrganisationForce (ADF) has already acknowledged the outstanding achievements of Aspect North by presenting a special award in 2001 in recognition of its service record for supplying high-tech digital maps of operational landmass areas to the ADF.”
