Terralink Newsletter - July 2007

Postcodes, Addressing and Saving Money!

With new postcodes introduced throughout the country, New Zealand Post has streamlined it's processing of mail. Unfortunately, getting people to use the new addressing standards is a little harder. With New Zealand Post sending a billion items a year to around 1.85 million addresses, they're offering strong incentives for businesses to smarten up their databases.

New Zealand Post offers bulk mail discounts for businesses with a Sendright™ Certified addressing database. This discount can save businesses over 12c per letter.

Small mistakes such as dropping the first zero of a postal code, 0620 to 620, may seem minor, but these small errors will prevent your database from gaining compliance with NZ Post.

Terralink is pleased to be one of the first partners in the New Zealand Post SendRight™ partnership, and able to issue Statements of Accuracy for your addressing data. A Statement of Accuracy will become compulsory from July 2008 when lodging mail, in order to qualify for bulk mail discounts.

Terralink can offer you all of the services you need to clean up, change, and enhance your addresses with total confidence. These services include:

- Bulk cleaning of address data to New Zealand Post Standards and beyond
- Address validation against the Postal Addressing File (PAF)
- Postcoding, assigning the new postcodes to your file
- Geocoding, assigning X and Y coordinates and mesh blocking
- Manual checking of non valid addresses to increase valid address rates

Once an address database is postcoded and clean, we offer an address input tool to ensure all new addresses entered are valid and in the right format. We handle many government department databases and can guarantee that your data will remain private, confidential and secure. Terralink announces the creation of an ESRI network dataset for NZ

Terralink International Limited have created the first commercially available NZ physical road network dataset ready for ESRI’s ArcGIS 9.2 (desktop GIS) and ArcGIS 9.2 Server (enterprise GIS). Terralink clients are using the network dataset to create delivery routes and to obtain estimates of travel time and travel distance. Other uses include service area analysis, finding the nearest facility and origin-destination matrix analysis.

Accurately modelling the route required to get from one place to another requires the best possible data and attributes. The most important are road centrelines and turn restrictions. Terralink’s NZ MasterMap centreline data is the most comprehensive in NZ, with full end-to-end connectivity and attributes that include designated speed limit, direction of travel, number of lanes and road surface.

Combining Terralink’s turn restrictions with NZ MasterMap road centrelines results in a network dataset that can be used confidently to support business decisions such as how to route deliveries, or where to locate a new facility, or how to identify the closest facility. If you would like to enquire further about this dataset, please phone 0508 483 772 or email sales@terralink.co.nz

NZ MasterMap

Terralink International Limited, well known in the GIS industry for its accurate land information packages, is launching the most comprehensive package of data available in New Zealand today.

Known as NZ MasterMap, it comprises a versatile national series of 14 layers of integrated data, which can be purchased individually, or as an entire suite. As NZ's largest database of integrated national land information database, it promises to change the way companies use GIS data.

Until now, it has been impossible to gain easy access to this data, in a format, or delivery option that was truly flexible. NZ MasterMap changes all of that!

"We are very excited about the release of NZ MasterMap and the service we can offer the industry. We have invested over a million dollars in our new data infrastructure, TerraBase, over the last 24 months, and it's evolved into a very powerful database," said Tony Bozzard, NZ MasterMap Manager. "We will shortly be announcing some new data layers, and opportunities for organisations to partner with us, as channel partners, resellers or developer partners."

Dedicated teams are working to meet Geoscience quality and timeframe expectations. The teams are operating within an ArcSDE/ArcGIS v9.1 framework for these production projects.

Property Guru Going from Strength to Strength

In September 2006 Terralink launched a new property information web site, Property Guru, for real estate agents. Building on its experience in providing property information online to businesses and consumers with www.terranet.co.nz the company created a new site for these property specialists and their specific requirements. Property Guru was the "new kid on the block", competing with an established provider who had had the market to themselves for some time. To get the word out about Property Guru and support its users, six staff are employed to service every real estate office in the country, two each in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

Real estate agents started signing up to Property Guru once they saw the clean, simple and intuitive product at work along with the extensive coverage of aerial photography, and at "value for money". Since then the Business Solutions team at Terralink has made successive enhancements to Property Guru following suggestions from its users. This month version 2.0 will be launched with an even better interface that puts most functions a single click away and introduces new mapping to the site to better visualise properties and neighbourhoods.
