New Zealand National Coverage with the Latest Geographic Datum
Christchurch, New Zealand - March 12, 2004.
On Monday 1st of March the Ambulance Communications Centre of the Order of StJohn, Northern Region (South Island) was the first in the country to go live with the nation wide geographic data. The sophisticated new geographic data was supplied by Terralink International Terralink is an innovative data integration company which provides Geographic Information System and mapping solutions that enable better business management.
Spectrum Data Systems International Pty Ltd (SDSI) converted and prepared the data into maps and a database to be utilized within the TriTech VisiCAD application. The data included essential information on streets, intersections, cities/towns, regions which will enhance the capabilities of the Ambulance call takers and dispatchers. Information regarding parks, waterways, coast lines, contours, paths, railways, airports, one way streets, traffic lights, roundabouts is just some of the data which has now been updated.
The TriTech VisiCAD application along with the Terralink data will allow for incremental updates and the routable dataset allows for dispatch decisions based on the closest vehicle ensuring the best possible service is provided to the community.
Colin Lawrence, Technical Support Manager, of StJohn commented, “The new map data allows for speedy, accurate determination of incident location and includes layers of information that were not previously available or able to be displayed. All this goes towards achieving quicker response times in the event of an emergency.”
