Terralink Signs European Alliance

14 April 2005

Wellington geographic information company Terralink International has signed an alliance agreement with Europe’s largest aerial mapping company Hansa Luftbild that is likely to see multimillion dollar contracts flowing to Terralink from Europe, the Middle East and South East Asia.

German-based Hansa Luftbild operates in over 80 countries from a network of 11 offices in Europe, Middle East and South East Asia. The strategic alliance is  oriented towards joint business opportunities in the field of Satellite imagery.

Terralink’s high resolution satellite imaging technology was unveiled earlier this year after a 12-month development programme jointly funded by Technology New Zealand.

Hansa Luftbild Managing Director Thomas Eckart expressed confidence in the success of the strategic alliance.

“We were very impressed by Terralink’s technology. It gives us a new dimension to our business in three very important regions,’ he said.

“We’re most excited about their cutting edge satellite imaging abilities and software applications for viewing geographic information, both of which are truly world class. The opportunities for these technologies over the next few years will be worth many millions of dollars.”

Terralink Managing Director Mike Donald says the alliance is good news for the company’s international market development plans.

“This alliance is a huge boost for our international business development programme. Being able to plug our technology straight into the market leader’s network puts us well ahead in our market development strategy,” he said.

Mike Donald says the deal is the direct result of Terralink’s participation in the NZTE-led trade mission to CeBit, the world’s largest IT trade fair in Hanover last month.

“We wouldn’t have made this connection if we didn’t go to CeBit with NZTE,” he said.

Terralink was working on further international market development opportunities with NZTE.
