Terralink High Res Satellite Breakthrough Awarded
17 October 2005
Breakthrough technology for producing high resolution satellite images developed by leading Australasian spatial solutions and mapping company Terralink International has been awarded a prestigious Technology Commendation award by the New Zealand Foundation for Research, Science and Technology (FRST).
The award is for technology that allows Terralink International to rapidly produce high resolution satellite imagery faster and more cost effectively than traditional sources.
The award is one of only four issued this year by FRST, the New Zealand Government agency charged with developing New Zealand science and technology. Terralink International is based in Wellington, New Zealand, with offices in Melbourne and Auckland.
Terralink’s new technology produces satellite images up to 0.6 m resolution from low resolution images. The images can then be used in mapping, change monitoring and remote sensing applications.
International interest in the new technology has been high. Terralink has already signed an alliance agreement with Europe's largest aerial survey company Hansa Luftbild that is likely to see Terralink-produced high resolution satellite used throughout Europe, the Middle East and South East Asia.
