Land Cover Database of New Zealand
By utilising satellite imagery technology, Terralink International has created a complete and accurate database of New Zealand’s land cover, called the Land Cover Database (LCDB 1 & 2).
The entire area of New Zealand has been identified and classified into 43 types of land cover classes e.g. planted forest, indigenous forest, horticulture and pasture. Accurate land cover information aids forestry companies and environmental monitoring projects e.g. the Ministry for the Environment, the Climate Change Office (CCO) and local authorities.
Telecommunications companies also need to know about land cover as it's a major factor in determining loss of signal in radio frequency transmission. 'Clutter maps' produced from the LCDB help the planning of wireless communications networks.
LCDB data is supplied in almost any GIS or CAD format, ready for immediate use.
